Comfort food for vegans

Despite the fact that the local food culture includes numerous meat dishes, Barcelona is without a doubt one of the vegan capitals of Europe. I arrived here last autumn, and there are still many new vegetarian / vegan places to discover! Usually veganism and healthy diet are considered to belong together and even though that is often the case, sometimes vegans need their comfort food too. Here are some suggestions for perfect hangover cure, or for those lazy days when you don’t feel like cooking and want to enjoy your life a little :)

Dolce Pizza y Los Veganos

Pizza, pasta, hot dogs, salads, burgers.. Dolce Pizza y Los Veganos is a food heaven for vegans. Especially the pizzas are amazing! If you are a fan of vegan sausages, you should definitely try out the pizza with vegan chorizo. The restaurant is located in the Gracia neighbourhood and only within short walking distance from the metro station Joanic. The staff is really friendly, professional and know the menu well.

 Cat Bar Barcelona

I went to Cat Bar with my suspicious meat-lover friend and got him convinced too! Cat Bar is a small and laid back alternative bar that offers delicious vegan food and huge selection of craft beers. There are many vegan options on the burger list and yummy patatas bravas – definitely worth of trying. Cat Bar is located really close to metro station Jaume I so it is perfect dining place after a beach day or wandering around in the city.

METRO: Jaume I, Urquinaona

La Gelateria del Barri - Vegan Ice Cream

If you are craving for something sweet and cold in the summer heat, this is the right place for you. La Gelateria del Barri offers many different flavours of vegan ice cream in their ice cream parlour. The owner of the place seems really enthusiastic and welcoming and the ice cream is goooood.

Tip: If you are having a dinner and drinks at Cat Bar and want to have an ice cream for a dessert, combine these two – they are just about 5 minutes’ walk away from each other!

La Trocadero

Crab a bite to go or have a seat and be ready to enjoy super good vegan fast food! La Trocadero is a vegan fast food restaurant located near Sagrada Familia. They have amazing burgers, hot dogs and selection of vegan pastries. The staff is also really friendly. I highly recommend!

Veggie Garden

Veggie Garden is a place where you always go back. And it's 100% vegan! Cheap prices, tasty Indian thali and relaxed atmosphere – that is what Veggie Garden is made of. Last time I stepped out of my comfort zone of thali and tasted a vegan burger with an a-m-a-z-i-n-g smoothie. The burger was nice too (and less than 5 euros) but thali will always take victory. There are two Veggie Gardens in Barcelona (one in El Raval and one close to metro station Universitat) and my absolute favorite is the one in El Raval. The staff is friendly, there is an outdoor terrace and the atmosphere is much cosier.

METRO: Universitat, Plaza Catalunya, Liceu, Sant Antoni

Veganoteca

Alternative for eating out at the restaurant is to go to a vegan shop, fill your shopping basket and go to a park or beach for a little picnic. Veganoteca is a small vegan shop located in the neighbourhood of El Raval. They have for example vegan sausages, cheese and sweets that are normally a little bit challenging to find in Barcelona. The staff is smiley and helpful :)

METRO: Universitat, Sant Antoni, Plaza Catalunya

As we are in Barcelona, hunting for amazing vegan places continues.. stay tuned :)

Love,
