Experiencing Gaudí in a different way
Antoni Gaudí's architectural masterpieces are without a doubt the main tourist attraction of our town and our friends and family that visit us in Barcelona often expect us to have been there and done that. Still, it seems like not that many of us living in the Catalonian capital have actually ever stepped a foot inside one of the famous buildings of Gaudí. It's not that we are not interested, at least I am, but they are somehow so obvious and you just feel like they will always be there and you will have time to check them later, because there are so many other ongoing events, exhibitions and concerts happening in the town that you don't want to miss!
I must admit I have also had some prejudices about visiting Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlló or La Pedrera. When you see the loooong queues standing patiently on the line, waiting for their turn to enter and the high entrance fees (at least for my wallet), you just feel like... nah, I prefer to skip that. Despite the crowds, I can't deny Gaudí's work being amazing, imaginative and like straight from a fairytale. It's something you don't just see everywhere, it's something so proper only to Barcelona herself. I think I just wanted to see it from a different angle and get more worth for the price and that's why I got very excited when I heard about these events that let you enjoy both the architecture, music and wine (who could resist that!) in a warm summer evening. So let me tell you more about these two events that I have been to and wanted to share with you as well:
Las Noches de Verano en La Pedrera
This is a unique experience to enjoy La Pedrera at night and listen to live jazz on it's magical rooftop! Las Noches de Verano includes a free visit to the Espai Gaudí, a visual tour of the work of the singular architect, followed by a glass of cava and spectacular views on the rooftop. The live music is usually played by some of the most representative local jazz talents, combining it with representative figures of the jazz scene. For me it really was a positive experience and walking along the curiously looking chimneys, sipping my cava and listening to the deep sounds of jazz, I felt like being in another planet (I came to the conclusion that the chimneys look like aliens!). I was really happy of going and finally seeing La Pedrera with my own eyes but in a slightly different way than just doing the regular visit.
This event takes places every Friday and Saturday till the 9th of September so if you are interested, there is still time to book your tickets (30e including a glass of cava) from here.
Isn't it beautiful? And no, all those empty glasses are not mine :P
Noches Mágicas de Casa Batlló
After the good experience in La Pedrera, I thought maybe it's time to also check Casa Batlló, which is my favourite Gaudí's house, because I think it looks like a mermaid (but actually it represents a dragon)! I went to check their website and found out that they also have "magic nights" on the rooftop accompanied by live music and there I was, booking a ticket (39e including 2 drinks and a guided visit inside the house). The first part, the guided visit with a Smartguide, wasn't maybe that special to me because it was pretty full and I think it was funny to see all those people walking around taking pictures in their blue headphones on so I couldn't quite concentrate on what the audio guide was explaining. My mistake! After the visit we entered the rooftop and were served a glass of mimosa and another drink ticket. The views were beautiful, the music was nice and the atmosphere was warm and cheerful. And now I have finally done it, after almost three years of living in Barcelona, I have seen Casa Batlló inside and not just that but had a drink on it's beautiful rooftop!
These events take place every night till the 1rst of October and you can book the tickets and check the bands that are playing here.
