Taking the best out of summer Sundays
Sunday is probably my favourite day of the week – you are
allowed to take it easy and be lazy with an easy conscience but it’s also a
perfect day for exploring the city and trying out something new. There are
always many things to do in Barcelona but in the summer the city comes to life
in a whole new way. There are many different kinds of events taking place and
all the people gather together to celebrate the sunny summer days. Below you
will find some of my favourite things about summer Sundays in Barcelona. Hope
you will find it useful!
Free museums
Sundays are perfect days to go museum wandering! You can
take a little air-conditioned break of the sun and go explore the museums you
always wanted to visit (but you still never did so far because of one reason or
another). Many museums are offering free
entrance on the first Sunday of the month and/or every Sunday in the afternoon
after 3pm, for example Picasso museum, Museu de la Música, Museu de Cultures
del Món and Maritime Musem.

Parc del Laberint d'Horta
What could be a better way to spend a Sunday than chilling
in a park? Parc del Laberint d'Horta is definitely one of my favourite parks in
Barcelona! You will find nice spots for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful
landscape but you can also get playful and venture inside the labyrinth. Just be
careful not to get lost! ;) Parc del Laberint d'Horta is the oldest garden in
Barcelona, designed by an Italian engineer Domenico Bagutti in 1792. On Summer
Sundays (from May until September) it is open from 10am until 9pm and the
entrance is free of charge.
Tip: Some hiking trails of Serra de Collserola Natural Park
are relatively close to the park, so if you feel like having an active Sunday, combine
a little hike with the park visit!
Brunch -In The Park & -In
the City
If you want to get wild instead of just chilling out, try out this
Sunday event! Brunch -In The Park & -In the City is an electronic open-air
music event with popular DJ’s from all around the world that takes place on summer
Sundays in Plaza Mayor del Poble Espanyol. The idea of the event is to get
people to enjoy great parties under the sunshine, without having to spend the
whole night out. If you wish to take
a break of dancing, you will find spots to sit down and crab something to eat
and drink.
Note: This event is super popular and it’s usually (I dare
say that always) sold-out so it is important to buy the tickets in advance to
secure your spot! There is also an early-bird discount for people who buy the
tickets well in advance when they go for sale.

Magic Fountain of Montjuïc
The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc first spouted on the 19th
of May 1929 during the Great Universal Exhibition and nowadays continues to entertain
visitors. It is one of the main tourist attractions in Barcelona but the
beautiful light shows also attract locals to come and enjoy the atmosphere.
There are various, cool effects in the show and the lights change colours in
time to the music. In the winter time
there are no shows on Sundays but from 1st of June until 31st of August during
the summer schedule there are shows on Sundays too, starting at 21.30. It is a
nice ending for a beautiful Sunday!
