Graffiti hunting in Poblenou

Barcelona is a mecca for street art lovers, and one of our favourite places for street art hunting is El Poblenou. El Poblenou is a former industrial area in Barcelona that lies between the beaches and the city centre. It has lots of industrial buildings, modern office spaces and apartment buildings. It’s getting all the time more popular place to live, and the prices of properties have gone up in a very short time. Poblenou has a vibrant street art scene that is worth checking out!

My suggestion is to get off from metro or tram at Selva de mar, and check out the surroundings of Carrer de la Selva de mar and Carrer d’Espronceda towards Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes. I’d suggest you to have a peek at Carrer de Veneçuela and Carrer del Perú on the way to see some cool urban art. You might also want to stop for a refreshing drink or tapas in one of the many small restaurants in the area or combine your walking tour with a nice park picnic at Parc Del Centre Del Poblenou. If you want to have a longer walk at the area and are interested in architecture, it might also be a good idea to check out some of the most modern buildings in Barcelona, Torre Agbar and Disseny Hub, and have a little walk on the fetching Rambla de Poblenou.

Just before when you get to Carrer d’Espronceda, you will see a metal gate and a closed yard full of amazing street art. It is an old industrial building that has nowadays become an art research and production centre Hangar. If the gate is open have a peek inside and you might find something really interesting!

As we are talking about metamorphosing street art and constantly evolving up-and-coming neighbourhood, we shouldn’t be surprised when we get there the next time and the street art we have been looking for has been replaced to another or the whole building has been decided to tear down. In any case, I’m sure there are always some new interesting stuff to explore in Poblenou!

Love,

Kristiina in Barcelona
