Getting Artsy in Barcelona

How about a totally different and creative plan for the weekend or for a casual evening during the week? I myself have always been into arts and painting, even though I wouldn’t call myself extra talented or someone with a lot of knowledge. What about you? Many art based activities, like classes or workshops, have used to be very expensive to me and not easily accessible, usually not very much fun-related either but more serious stuff. That’s why I got so excited when I heard the first time about Salir con Arte and after that, about the new Arte Bar in Barcelona!

Salir con Arte is an event that is organized every couple of weeks (you can see the agenda here) in different bars of Barcelona. In every event a different painting is painted, usually a copy of a masterpiece of some famous artist. The event takes two hours with step-by-step instructions, wine, socializing and lots of fun! This is not a serious class but should be full of giggles instead and you are free to use the colors you want and add any elements you feel like in your own painting. So no strict rules are applied here! No experience is also needed and even someone who has never painted before will be encouraged to find his/her inner artist. After the class it’s amazing to see how everyone has created their own personal version of the same painting. In the end everyone has a version of themselves and their own inside world reflected on it, something that I found very fascinating! My realization was that there is no such thing as not being able to paint, as it's a very personal thing that everyone can create. It just depends on how you look at it!

Another great option is Arte Bar, a hip art studio that offers painting and wine parties with also no experience needed! This place offers more of an intimate experience, as it takes place not in a bar but in an artsy studio only with you, the other participants and the instructors themselves. Many of the creative and Barcelona-inspired paintings you can choose for in their agenda, are created by the artist instructor himself, wow! I took my father and sister to paint the Sagrada Familia, which they loved and it was a great and unique memory of their trip to take back home!

This event takes about 2,5 hours and costs 30e (the final price with taxes is 36,30e) but you can totally feel like time stops because they don’t hurry you up to finish your work but you have breaks to enjoy some local wine, beer and delicious snacks like cheese and fruits, all included in the price! In the end, due to the friendly and cozy atmosphere, you feel like just painting with some random friends in a cozy living room! The classes are in English so this one is also suitable for people who want to experience something different on their vacations in Barcelona. They also have private sessions for groups and couple sessions where two people can paint one piece of art together, I definitely want to try that one next!
